For those of you who landed here by chance: CIAO! I’m Francesco – Fra if you want to make it easier. I was born and I’ve lived in Florence almost my whole life. Not just based nearby (or pretending to). Actually from here. A Florence wedding photographer is what I really am, and not just a statement for Google. That’s not a line, but it’s the reason this page exists.

Florence: The city I know

Having lived here for most of my life, there are things I’ve not had to learn: the light on the Arno at 6 PM in October, or how it changes from April to September at sunrise, in front of the Duomo; the corners that work and the ones that don’t, the courtyards off Via Maggio that most people walk past without noticing. They’re just part of how I see the city. I’ve played soccer in front of the Duomo at 2am, when Florence belonged only to its own people and felt like a completely different place. That Florence still exists, if you know where to look: narrow alleys that take you out of the tourist circuit entirely, small piazzas where the intimacy you were hoping to find in the famous spots is just quietly there, waiting. Those famous spots are famous for a reason, and I do my best to squeeze out all the opportunities from them. But the best frames are often one street over from the obvious one.

The Florentine ZTL problem, and why it matters

Florence’s historic center is a ZTL, meaning it’s a restricted traffic zone. Really restricted. This city wasn’t designed for the traffic of this century. Vendors have narrow time windows and need permits to get in. If part of your day involves moving from the center to a villa outside the city, getting guests back and forth requires proper planning.

Having found myself in these circumstances several times, I’d suggest putting it on the table early, as it can become a real headache when it isn’t. Knowing which corners give you the light without losing forty minutes to logistics, or when Piazzale Michelangelo is empty and when it’s packed — these are the kind of things that are invisible when you book a photographer, and very visible when you discover that some local expertise might have made the difference.

Documentary, with an editorial eye. I’m not there to direct you into poses, but to help you be yourself – natural and effortlessly in your skin. To create and enjoy intimate, real moments. Making them look exactly as good as they felt, while making the experience of getting there fun and enjoyable. Florence gives you extraordinary backdrops without asking for anything in return. I’d say my job is just to not get in the way of that.

Do you shoot weddings in Florence city center, not just the Tuscan countryside?
Yes and honestly, the city is where I’m most at home. I’ve shot in the centro storico, in Oltrarno, in the hills above Fiesole, and in venues that sit right on the edge between city and countryside. Florence weddings have a different rhythm than country ones, and I’ve been navigating that rhythm for almost fifteen years.

What are the best venues in Florence for a wedding?
Depends on what you’re after. For something quite luxurious and formal, the Westin Excelsior or Villa Cora are hard to beat. For extraordinary gardens with a more intimate feel, Villa Le Fontanelle or Villa di Maiano. And if you want the city itself as your backdrop — the bridges, the rooftops, the Oltrarno at golden hour — we can build a day around that without needing a venue at all.

Are you available for elopements in Florence?
Small ceremonies, elopements, and intimate weddings in Florence or the surrounding areas are among my favorite days to shoot. I’d say Florence is better suited to them than to big celebrations. If you’re thinking of it, just stay away from the hottest and most crowded months. The light and the intimacy you can enjoy in April or October are really hard to beat.
