Bertha+Joe | Elegant laid-back wedding in the exclusive Val d’Orcia

Hey folks!

Today, I’m gonna tell you about this unique wedding I had the opportunity to photograph last summer here in Tuscany, in one of the most incredible venues you can pick in the region. Berta and Joe, a lovely couple from Hong Kong, chose to celebrate their special day at the stunning property of Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco. Located in Montalcino, Tuscany, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Val d’Orcia, this place is undoubtedly magical and one of my absolute favorite choices if I have to pick a Venue in the region. This is one of Tuscany’s oldest and best-preserved estates, embodies Italian heritage and lifestyle with breathtaking natural beauty, and has centuries of history and traditions defined in every corner. You can imagine that working as a wedding Photographer at Castiglion del Bosco is just an awesome experience!

This wedding was the perfect match for the person I am and the photos I like to snap, and not just because of the stunning venue: Bertha and Joe were sophisticated but fun, stylish and cool, but with a laid-back attitude, and extremely friendly and welcoming towards me. The entire day had such a relaxed and intimate feel – with their closest friends and family all staying together on the property – and smiles and tears alternated continuously hour after hour. The ceremony itself was incredibly touching, taking place under the backdrop of a one-thousand-year-old tower that added a sense of heritage to the occasion. Bertha looked absolutely radiant in her Vivienne Westwood wedding gown, and her evening dress from Newhite made her look even more breathtaking. Joe looked super sharp, too, in his tailor-made tobacco suit, perfectly complementing his beautiful bride while adding a fancy touch!

Capturing the love and happiness of Berta and Joe’s wedding day at Castiglion del Bosco was indeed an unforgettable adventure. The stunning backdrop of Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia provided the perfect setting for some unforgettable moments with exactly the kind of people I love to meet and share my time with. I couldn’t wait to share their wedding photos with you – because they genuinely capture this magical day’s essence in a way that resonates with me (and with them, too!): romantic and stylish, modern but timeless, and – most of all – true to the couple.
Cheers to lovely couples like them outta there and incredible destination venues like this one!

Just one more note about the editing style you’re gonna see in the next photos. This is the signature editing I’ve studied for couples and clients who have chosen me for this season. It’s a bit softer than how I was used to post-produce my photos in the past and closer to the film heritage that’s coming back into life lately, but without some of the contains that film photography itself brings into the flow-work (last but not least: no backup plan if something goes wrong with film shipment, development or scan). My main goal was to make it look personal and contemporary but timeless at the same time. When you see editing styles that are really trendy, the risk is always that they will age poorly, and this is something I always keep under control when it comes to deciding how to work on my photos. If you want, I’d love to hear your thoughts about it in the comments!
